Botanical ClassificationThe genus Saxifraga is large and diverse, and so it is useful to divide it into Sections that reflect the current understanding of the relationships between species. Here, we follow Richard Gornall's 1987 classification, although recent DNA studies support a move to split off Sections Micranthes and Merkianae as a separate genus Micranthes. We hope to show and describe an increasing selection of these wonderful plants in wild and in cultivation on these pages, and present different ways of accessing classification systems. At present you may simply browse or search the hierarchy of SaxBase, which so far holds names of all the currently accepted botanical taxa in a searchable form. |
